I’ve got spectacular news!
For the last few months, I have been working tirelessly on an application. Perhaps the most important application of my life. At least so far. Specifically, I applied for a PhD position in clinical psychology at Stockholm University and I recently got a letter informing me that my application was successful!
I am beyond thrilled that starting this September, I will officially commence work toward a doctoral degree. I feel very fortunate and honored to have gotten this opportunity. I have been savoring the joy and gratitude this recognition of my work thus far signifies ever since I got the acceptance letter. But come September, the real work begins. And I am ready!
It feels a bit strange not to mention the topic I will be diving into. Briefly, I will be investigating and evaluating novel internet-based treatment options for obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). Somewhat self-evidently, this brief topic description is overly simplified and I will share the nuances of my planned work later.
That’s because this post is not about the topic per se. Instead, this is a commemorative post to celebrate this significant milestone in my academic journey. My acceptance into this PhD program is a testament to the hard work, dedication, and passion I’ve poured into my studies and research. I fully intend to bring the same passion and energy into this next chapter of my academic journey and I’m excited to share my experiences with you as they occur.
To that aim, I intend to document my PhD journey here. I want to share insights from my PhD journey, lessons I will learn on the way, and the inevitable failures or mishaps.
The reason for documenting my journey on this blog is based on a couple of principles that I believe solidify learning. Firstly, by announcing my goals and lessons learned (whether from successes or failures) publicly, I hold myself accountable for following those lessons. Secondly (and perhaps more importantly), there is no difference between writing out my thoughts and organizing them. Put differently, writing is organized thinking.
I look forward to diving into the details of my topic. I am also very excited to continue working with Per Carlbring, who will be my supervisor. Per has been an exceptional mentor and an unmatched collaborator in scientific endeavors.
I feel tremendous gratitude for everyone who has supported and encouraged me throughout my academic journey hereto. Stay tuned for updates as I embark on this exciting new chapter in my academic career.
